Overview

VyprVPN is a great choice for users who put a priority on security and privacy. VyprVPN is incorporated in Switzerland, keeping it out of reach of either EU or US jurisdictions. In addition to its commitment to privacy and security, VyprVPN also boasts impressive server speeds due to its wide range of global locations. However, VyprVPN’s policy of logging and keeping basic connection data (though not activity data) for 30 days may be off-putting for some users such as heavy torrenters. VyprVPN works great with Netflix. Its apps are easy to use and offer a reasonable number of configuration and power features. Locations are fairly solid, you can select specific US cities to optimize your server connection, and VyprVPN works well in China, which many do not.

PROS

Speed & Performance: 7.7

VyprVPN has been hard at work improving its server performance recently, and now has servers across the globe that are both consistently reliable and very fast–even for multiple ultra-HD video streaming. We saw the very best performance on servers in the Netherlands, Germany, France, and the UK, as well as some pretty impressive speeds in the US, Mexico, and Brazil. Gamers who use online multiplayer will love the newly-boosted latency levels.

Unblock Content: 8.0

VyprVPN works with a wide variety of sites and services, including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Kodi, HBO, Twitter, Google/Gmail, and Facebook, as well as for gaming.

Security & Privacy: 8.3

VyprVPN is a good solid choice for privacy aficionados. The NAT firewall is awesome for blocking unrequested incoming traffic, and its very own “Chameleon” encryption allows users to bust through the Great Firewall of China. VyprVPN also offers a killswitch, and maintains its own zero-log DNS servers (no third-party servers).

VyprVPN does keep a log of your connection metadata for 30 days, but guarantees not to track or log any online activity. The company is up-front about what VyprVPN does temporarily collect: connection/disconnection dates and times, IP address used to make the connection, IP address of the VyprVPN server, and total bytes transferred. We’re convinced that VyprVPN internal privacy processes are pro-user and efficient; it do not block P2P traffic.

Server Locations: 7.7

VyprVPN’s location options are solid in most highly-populated countries, but it does not offer as many choices as the leading competitors—for example, city selection in the US is limited. VyprVPN, however, does feature dynamic server switching to help maintain peak performance, and the app automatically compares server load, ping time, and download speeds to ensure that you are on the best performing server within your chosen location.

Ease Of Use: 8.2

VyprVPN’s desktop app is clear, uncluttered, and easy to use, with a graph showing network activity. Server choices are listed in a separate window—which any given user may consider either a feature or a bug. Your new IP address shows up on the main interface, and connection times were very good. It can be confusing at first to figure out that most options can only be accessed when your connection is not active. Once you’re on board with that, it is easy to navigate through the clearly-explained options.

The mobile apps were not as easy to use—the multiple password entries are a definite downside. VyprVPN has recently improved the simplicity of connecting to VPN-averse streaming services, but some users may still have issues. If this is a problem for you, try clearing all browsing data, signing out of Chrome, and using Chrome’s advanced content settings to block apps from requesting location data.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Simple, uncluttered app
  • Easy-to-use advanced options
  • Simple server switching

WHAT WE LIKE LESS

  • Mobile apps a little fiddly
  • Desktop app could use streamlining
  • Can only access settings while disconnected

Customer Support: 7.5

VyprVPN’s website has a pretty sparse support section; this area could definitely use some upgrading. There are no video tutorials or comprehensive help sections. We found live chat to be adequate and accurate, but not very speedy.

Value For Money: 7.5

VyprVPN’s plans are reasonably priced, especially if you sign up for a year, and the service is well-rounded and dependable.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • All plans include NAT firewall
  • Premium plan is great value with many features
  • Netflix works very well

WHAT WE LIKE LESS

  • No Chameleon protocol on basic plan
  • Basic plan only allows 3 simultaneous connections
  • VPN cloud server only on Premium plan
